Our review of the WF-4830 goes into detail about this slightly dizzying multitude of interface options.
The WorkForce Pro’s software bundle includes the WF-3820 drivers, third-party TWAIN scanner drivers, Epson Fax Utility, Epson Scan 2, and Epson ScanSmart. You can print from and scan to USB thumb drives and other USB devices that plug directly into the USB port to the left of the control panel.
The printer also supports Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Android printing, Fire OS printing, and Mopria Print Service. Epson Email Print, Epson Remote Print, and Epson Scan to Cloud connect the printer to your computer, while Epson iPrint App is available for both Android and iOS.
You can also access most functions (including generating usage reports and configuring security options) through a mobile-friendly web portal or a number of included apps. The entire control panel is contained within this relatively small screen. The control panel provides easy navigation without cumbersome drill-down menus. You can view and print the various usage reports or configure security features, monitor supplies, and perform most other operational tasks from this little display.
This little beginner WorkForce Pro AIO sports an easy-to-use 2.7-inch color touch screen (shown below) for configuring and executing walk-up tasks, such as scanning to your favorite cloud site or a network drive. The WF-3830’s standard interfaces are USB 2.0 for connecting to a single computer, Wi-Fi and Ethernet for networking, and Wi-Fi Direct for connecting wirelessly to a mobile device. Brother’s MFC-J995DW brings up the rear with its 101-sheet paper capacity, 5,000-page duty cycle, and 1,500-print suggested volume.Įpson’s WorkForce Pro AIOs are designed to meet the needs of business-oriented environments, so they come ready to connect to most networks and devices, including Android and iOS phones and tablets. The HP OfficeJet Pro 8025’s 225-sheet paper tray comes close to the WF-3820’s input capacity, as do its 20,000-page maximum duty cycle and 800-print suggested volume. (Canon no longer publishes volume ratings for its consumer-grade printers.) Epson’s EcoTank ET-3750 has a 150-sheet paper tray and maximum and suggested print volumes of 5,000 and 800 pages, respectively-and it costs more than twice as much as the WF-3820. One of the many trade-offs for the Canon Pixma G4210’s cheap ink is a meager 100-sheet paper tray. Of the other AIOs mentioned here so far, these capacities and volume numbers are the highest, though not by much. The higher-end WorkForce Pro AIOs require more desk space and use more power than the much smaller and leaner WF-3820.Ī 250-sheet paper drawer meets most print-capacity needs. The other four-the standard-format WF-4820 and WF-4830, and the wide-format WF-7820 and WF-7840-graduate incrementally in price, volume, capacity, and feature sets. Replacing Epson’s WF-3720, the WF-3820 is one of five WorkForce Pro models that Epson released in late 2020. Otherwise, it’s a fine little AIO and well-suited for printing about 100 to 200 pages per month. That's the primary reason it falls just short of earning our Editors’ Choice nod. It has good features for the price it prints well and is reasonably fast. Like most lower-end inkjet AIOs, though, this one is a bit expensive to use, as it's not compatible with Epson's EcoTank bulk ink.
